About MIPAV

3-D Surface Views

MIPAV provides the ability to view 3-D data sets a volume, instead of just as a collection of the two-dimensional data that the imaging equipment provided. MIPAV allows the researcher to view the volume from all directions.

3-D viewing with surface extraction

Patient's knee (the patella, tibia and femur), viewed from the outside of the knee, extracted from volumetric image-data and rendered as a volume is displayed along with co-ordinate axis. Image data (the rest of the soft-tissues) at the axis is displayed on the axis panes.

Particularly useful is combining the surface extraction features with the Volume views. Here, we display the surface extraction of the femur, tibia and patella. The images of hard tissues of the patient's knee were extracted from volumetric image-data and are displayed with the entire data at the co-ordinate axes.

An entire video using MIPAV's tri-planar viewer was made to show off this particular data-set.
